So Mama Lita wanted to treat us for dinner and we were in Vivo City. We decided to go to Dian Xiao Er. We've eaten here before but it's been some time already. The deco inside will remind you of those ancient kung-fu movies with bad dubbings but the food is nothing like that. Thankfully we also arrived not a minute later as the line would have been very long if we did.
Our Orders
Sauteed Lettuce - $12.60
Sometimes it really amazes me how simple ingredients can make absolutely impressive dishes. Take this dish for example, its braised lettuce with garlic in a Chinese style - soybean based sauce. The picture may not do it justice but trust me this is very good.
Hotplate Tofu - $ 10.90
Very hotplate + tofu + egg + minced pork. If you can prepare this the same way as they do then good for you but I'm coming back here to have this again.
Ten Wonder Duck - $25.30
This is the hot seller in Dian Xiao Er. I think every table will order at least a small portion of this. Served with their special sauce the duck was perfectly cooked and the sauce just made the duck taste a lot better too. We ordered some steamed Chinese buns and dipped it in that nice rich sauce... I'd recommend you do the same.
Old-Style Fish - $18.30
We actually thought that they forgot about serving this dish as it took them a loooong time to serve it. Lucky for us that we didn't cancel this as this almost stole the duck's place as the star of the show. I'm not sure if they used seabass for the fish but if not then their chef is a god. The fish was flaky and the sauce just taste right. This is a must-have here.
Price and Value
We paid $86.00 for everything which makes it about $21.00+ per person. It was just the right amount of food for everyone. Maybe some people may see $25.00 for half a duck to be expensive but when you are served all of the food that we had together, the experience more than makes up for it.
